Our assignment for this play was to develop a design based on a decade of the 19th century. I chose the 1850s, the pre-crinoline decade when multiple layers of petticoats were worn to create volume. In my design Nora’s skirts expand as her secret takes a greater and greater toll upon her life, until ultimately the truth comes out and she leaves home in a much slimmer silhouette.
