I had the opportunity to design this 1970 Sondheim musical for Color & Light Theatre Ensemble’s premiere production. The story pits Bobby, 35 and single, against all of his “happily” married friends as he navigates the meaning of life and love. The dark color scheme of Act I reflects Bobby’s negative perception of marriage, while the brighter colors of Act II convey Bobby’s realization that marriage is positive and desirable.
